Each of the 18 tracks on the album holds soulful charm: the proud statement song of praise MY PA IS DIE KONING, the vibrant STOFKERK MEDLEY with a lively Cape carnival feel complete with Banjo and Consertina, the joy filled freedom in JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE and PUT YOUR HAND IN THE HAND (of the man from Galilee) to the inspiring gripping passion of SHALOM, EK GEE JOU MY WOORD, ANGELS AMONG US  (complete with a choir of angels), I BELIEVE, HOUTKRUIS and TAKE MY HAND PRECIOUS LORD. The title track GLO VAS truly touches your heart.

 

JJ Stephens is a well respected songwriter and included some of his work on this album, O DIS LIEFDE, JUST FOR TODAY, TRIBUTE TO JESUS (with Andries Botha) and the inspirational VOETSPORE (with Andries Botha). VOETSPORE and the traditional FOOTPRINTS are narrated by JJ, highlighting his velvet mellow presenters voice along with tasteful orchestration these two tracks leave you with a sense of inner peace and tranquillity.

 

Amongst the showcased tracks there is the song PEACE IN THE VALLEY, that JJ heard as a young boy, performed by the late great Ray Charles, it left such an impression on JJ that he vowed he would record the song some day, well he did in the form of a tribute to Ray Charles with a real South African touch.

 

AMAZING GRACE is one of the surprises and highlights on the album, overpowering orchestration, masterful guitar playing followed by vocal excellence; this version gives the old classic new life and should help insure its very existence for another couple of hundred years or so.

 

This album has the stamp of approval and will be cherished by collectors and fans alike. This is JJ Stephens at his best.
